What is a Crown Restoration?
A tooth crown is a cap that is custom made to fit perfectly over a natural tooth. This type of restorative dental work mimics the original tooth structure. Once in place, a crown fully restores impaired smiles. If you want to avoid metal materials, no worries! Rosas Family Dentistry provides natural-looking all-ceramic crowns. Dr. Rosas may recommend a dental crown to restore a missing, weakened, or damaged tooth. Crown restorations can also be used in combination with implants, bridges, and root canal treatment.
What Issues Can a Tooth Crown Repair?
Several problems can be fixed with a dental crown, such as:
- Severe decay that cannot be treated effectively with a dental filling
- Severe tooth damage or mouth injury
- A weakened tooth in need of support after injury or root canal therapy
- Tooth replacement with a dental implant
What is the Dental Crown Procedure?
Two visits to our Clear Lake, TX, dental office are needed to complete the crown process. At the first appointment, you receive a thorough exam to determine if the affected tooth can support the restoration. Also, any decay will be removed, and then the tooth will be filled and prepared for placement of the crown.
Next, we will take an impression that is sent to an outside lab. Here your dental crown will be custom-crafted to match the color, size, and shape of your natural tooth. In the meantime, you will receive a temporary crown that will remain in place until the permanent restoration is finished.
